Sandhill Farm

Each winter, along Southern Arizona’s Whitewater Draw, approximately 20 miles southeast of Tombstone, thousands of sandhill cranes arrive at Sandhill Farm to feed, loaf and prepare to migrate. In partnership with landowners Blanton and Betty Belk and utilizing U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s North American Wetlands Conservation Act funding, the Trust has assisted in permanently protecting Sandhill Farm. The project expands migratory bird preserves in the Sulphur Springs Valley, including the 1,500-acre Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area to the south owned by the Arizona Game and Fish Department, while also protecting the working landscape and cattle grazing on the farm.
